Summer School Program
Summer 2007 at the
Most exciting for this summer was our June 2007 playground "build day". The young children helped design the playground based on what was the most fun. They reported that a tire swing is the most fun. There is further information on our playground along with some pictures of our 250 volunteers who committed the entire day to create a safe and secure area. Seventy children are enrolled this summer in a program of tutoring and enrichment. COSI, Columbus Zoo, Thurber House, and Ohio Children’s Theater, among others, brought programs to the center. Field trips to local swimming pools brought relief from the heat. A family trip to the zoo included parents and siblings with nearly 100 participating. Several church groups provided neighborhood picnics for weekend enjoyment. The summer school program provides an opportunity for the children to maintain grade level, and in some cases, advance. Studies focus on math skills, reading, creative writing, and art. Both middle school and high school children participate in a program of sports at the Center. This resulted in diminished reports of mischief in the neighborhood. Often, volunteers enjoy preparing and serving a nutritious lunches or dinners for the children. The summer program includes three meals and healthy snacks. |
