Flood at HFF
Volunteers: above and beyond. HFF offices and
shelter units are in a 100-year old building. Over
the weekend a clean water pipe burst on the 2nd
floor and flooded the main office area. Discovered
by accident, maintenance pitched in to pick up the
ceiling tiles, etc. Fortunately, computers and desks
and important papers were saved. After things dried
out, volunteers Patti Capella (l) and Karen Cook (r)
climbed ladders and wiped down the walls. Over the
weekend, many Young Heroes (high school program of
City Year) helped maintenance in the basement. They
recorded the items that were destroyed for insurance
purposes and cleaned those that could be salvaged.
There is usually a rainbow behind the clouds of a
flood and our volunteers showed the spirit needed
and helped our programs continue uninterrupted.
